Dulwich Pudong Footballers Strike ACAMIS Gold!
Hang up another banner in the Upper Gym, the Dulwich Pudong Boys D1 football team are the 2023 champions of the ACAMIS Red Division Football League!
The ACAMIS tournament was held last week on the Dulwich Pudong campus and saw three Dulwich Pudong teams in action - Boys D1, Girls D1 and Girls D2 - against visiting teams from Dulwich College Beijing, Quality International School Shenzhen, Shanghai Singapore International School, BISS Puxi, SCIS Puxi and the Suzhou Singapore International School.
All the teams played to a high level and displayed excellent sportsmanship throughout the 2-day tournament, which was the first in-person ACAMIS football tournament in 3 years!
Our girls teams also played extremely well. The D1 Girls made it through to the knockout stage where they came in 3rd overall, losing a tough semifinal 4-2 to eventual tournament winners SSIS.
Meanwhile, the D2 Girls team, who stepped in last minute due to one team pulling out the competition, performed unbelievably well. The team composed of under 13 players played with passion, grit and skill. They fought hard in every match, winning against DCB and drawing with our D1 team in arguably the most tense and exciting game of the tournament.
The future for DCSPD Girls football is very bright indeed!
The D1 Boys team started the first day of the tournament slowly, losing 2, winning 1 and drawing their first four matches. Their slow start on Day 1 put extra pressure on their 5th and final pool game to be played on Day 2. It was a must-win game for both them and opponents Dulwich Beijing. A hugely improved performance saw them win 3-0 and secure their place in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the boys defeated BISS Puxi 4-1 behind a well organised defense and potent attack. The final saw us defeat SCIS 3-1 in what was an incredibly commanding and dominant performance! Despite the slow start to the tournament, our boys team were deserved winners!
Coach Matt Gilvary shares, “A huge congratulation to our D1 7-a-side boys football team for their recent victory in the ACAMIS tournament. The dedication and hard work shown on and off the pitch finally paid off, culminating in a well-deserved victory in a talent-packed competition. The coaches are incredibly proud of the team’s effort, sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the event.”
Win, lose, or draw it is great to have in person competitive league sports back. The tournament was extremely well run and students, staff, and parents came out to cheer on all the athletes, creating an amazing atmosphere on the Dulwich Pudong Big Field.
Panther Pride!
