No CARbon November Gets Feet Moving Across the College

November is a special month around our College – it’s No CARbon November!

The entire month we get our feet moving by engaging in activities which help make the world a better, more sustainable place.

As usual our youngest learners down at DUCKS led the way with their “Little Feet, Big Steps" initiative to reduce their carbon footprint. Ms. Mandy Jacquelin, DUCKS Global Citizenship Coordinator, led an assembly to kick it off where children were encouraged to come to school sustainably, with special emphasis on these 4 areas:

  • Super Sustainable (choosing to walk or bike to school)
  • Super Safe (wearing helmets and crossing roads safely)
  • Super Strong (promoting healthy eating and exercise)
  • Super Smart (making good choices such as recycling and being kind and respectful to life on land)

Our DUCKS community rallied Eco DUCK and our DUCKS Senior Leadership Team to make this fun video emphasizing the importance of taking action.

Get Your Trainers On!

On November 14 we also held our traditional "Get Your Trainers On Tuesday". This hotly contested event involves all members of the College as schools team up to see which one can take the most collective steps during the course of the day.

DUCKS students loved the variety of activities which helped them earn steps for their House. Junior School students were so absorbed they had to be told to stop and go have lunch as they were enjoying the laps so much. Senior School students showed up and represented their Houses with pride.

This also explains the unusual spectacle of groups of people frantically walking in circles as the school day counted down.

We are happy to announce that DUCKS defended their title by tallying up an incredible 923,439 steps!

No CARbon November is a lot of fun, but more importantly it encourages us to reflect on the decisions we make and the actions we take and to make positive changes in our lives. Together as a community we strive to create a greener, more sustainable future for us all.
