Winter Concert raises the roof at Shanghai Oriental Art Centre

The whole Dulwich Pudong community joined us for a grand Winter Concert at the Oriental Music Hall in the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre, one of the city's leading professional music venues. The event featured over 450 students, teachers, and parents taking to the stage as part of 18 different choirs and instrumental ensembles. Performers included students from DUCKS through to Senior School, showcasing our students’ amazing musical talents.

Ruth Collings
This event truly showcased our vibrant music programme at Dulwich Pudong, which provides opportunities for students of all ages and abilities to develop their talents. The concert was filled with too many incredible musical moments to list, but what stood out most for me was the heartfelt sense of community and joy that filled the room, shared by students, families and teachers alike. The exceptional quality of our students' performances was a testament to their hard work and dedication.
- Ruth Collings, Director of Music

The evening opened with a lively performance of 'Cantaloupe Island' by the Big Band. It went on to feature a diverse programme ranging from the Tanzanian folk song 'Simama Kaa', sung by the Year 1 and 2 Mulan and Mushu Choirs, to the popular hit song 'Last Christmas', played by the Brass Band, and an electrifying rendition of Vivaldi’s 'Summer' from 'The Four Seasons', performed by the Allegro Strings ensemble.

After many stunning performances, the concert concluded with 'Christmastime', presented by the Concert Orchestra along with over 150 singers from our junior school, senior school, and FoD parent choirs, providing a perfect finale to the event. The audience rose in applause, expressing their gratitude and admiration for all the performers.

With groups including choirs, string ensembles, concert band, a capella singers, brass ensembles, full orchestras and jazz band, the concert was the perfect showcase for the rich musical programme at Dulwich Pudong. Every group stepped onto the stage with great enthusiasm and professionalism, and the audience was delighted to share in such a wonderful evening of music.

This was our first return to the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre for the Winter Concert since 2020, where we created wonderful memories four years ago.
