Student leadership training with Andrew Heald from Brown University

Andrew Heald, Director of the Global Brown Center at Brown University, paid a visit to Shanghai Dulwich Pudong on April 15th. During his visit, he had a meaningful interaction with parents, sharing invaluable insights into the cultural adaption that international students encounter when studying abroad. Furthermore, he had the pleasure of meeting our school's student ambassadors, where he delivered an inspiring talk on fostering student leadership.

The DCSPD Student Ambassadors promote subjects and areas of the school with students involved from Years 7 to 13. Alongside our Prefects, the group of student leaders were fortunate to take part in a session with Andrew Heald, the Director of The Brown Global Center for International Students at Brown University. During the session, Andrew explained that student leaders can continue to grow as leaders in a university setting and he outlined some examples of leadership opportunities from within his own department at Brown. DCSPD student leaders are currently following their own leadership journey so it was valuable to view the continuation of this journey in the next chapter of their lives once they graduate.

After hearing this valuable advice from Andrew, students then engaged in a leadership activity quiz in which they reflected on their decision making and planning as Ambassadors or Prefects. The activity ended with students reflecting on their leadership characteristics based on the results of the quiz.

Finally, there was a moment in which Ambassador groups and Prefect portfolios were able to document their achievements so far this academic year, share any challenges that they have faced and then set a target for the remainder of the term.

Furthermore, our student ambassadors enthusiastically guided the visitors on tours of our campus, allowing them to personally experience the academic atmosphere and unique charm of Dulwich Pudong.

Overall, the student leadership training session with Andrew Heald fostered leadership skills and provided valuable insights into cultural adaptation, empowering our student ambassadors to excel in their roles.
