Maura O'Connell
Head of EAL (DUCKS)
Upon completion of her PGCE Maura began her teaching career in Ireland with Y2 for four years. After this she took time out to travel through Asia finishing with a year in New Zealand substitute teaching in a variety of school settings. In 2016 she moved to Abu Dhabi as a Year 5 science teacher, while there she became Year 2 Leader.
In 2019 she was drawn back to Asia and was Year 2 teacher in YWIES Shanghai Lingang as well as Head of English and Theme. In mid-2020 she was promoted to Co-Head of primary. During this time she developed the English and Theme curricula as well as teaching and learning in the primary school. She also put a strong EAL programme in place as well as supporting with whole school development.
She is joining Dulwich Pudong as the DUCKS Head of EAL this year.
She has a passion for teaching enhanced by both her personal and work experiences in the area of education. She truly believes that a happy child is a child that will learn; therefore, she like to create a fun, energetic and active environment in her classroom. She has a passion for travel, languages, new cultures, art and sport. On the weekends she loves to get out and about with her two rescue dogs Osa and Peata.
