Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong is making significant progress against its Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) goals, according to a progress report charting activity during the 2023/24 academic year.

Last May, Dulwich Pudong published its first biannual ESG Report which set ambitious targets under four focus areas: Learning, Planet, People, and Policy. ESG is a widely used approach that evaluates the extent to which an organisation works on behalf of goals within environmental, social, and governance areas.

The ‘2023/24 ESG Progress Indicator Report’ published today shows what we have achieved in the first year and will help us to drive forward our priorities for the second. Its publication follows the launch of a third ESG report by Education in Motion, the education group to which we belong.

At Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong, we are proud of our community’s ongoing engagement with Global Citizenship. We provide a myriad of opportunities for our students to be able to learn about other cultures, to promote equity, to stand up for what is right, to foster a sense of inclusion and belonging, to act as custodians and protectors of the planet, and to serve others. This report is a celebration of those experiences.
- Anthony Reich, Director of Global Citizenship

Our 2023/24 highlights include:

  • Learning: We delivered multiple classroom based global citizenship opportunities, including a revamped in-house Sustainable Business and Entrepreneurship course for Senior School students.
  • Planet: We introduced positive measures towards becoming a more sustainable campus, led by a re-established student-led Sustainability Committee  which works with school leadership to deliver practical change.
  • People: We expanded relationships with community partners locally and globally, including the Shanghai Dream Foundation and The Peace Centre in Uganda, and developed innovative internal initiatives like the Social Enterprise Club.
  • Policy: We identified new ways to reduce energy usage following a student-led sustainability audit, updated our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Policies, and improved accessibility on campus.

Much of the activity is student-led.

Garry Russell
I want to thank the Global Citizenship team for driving forward this vital work, as well as to all the students, parents and staff who contributed over the last academic year. The 2023/24 report demonstrates the significant progress that has been made against our goals and, as a community, we can feel very proud. It also proves that the smallest actions can make a big difference and that we can all be changemakers for a better planet!
