Meet Our New House Logos!

"The House system holds great significance for me. Its importance cannot be fully explained in words; it can only be understood through action. However, if I were to say something, it would be that the House system will forever remain a significant and meaningful part of my journey at Dulwich."

-Mila L, Year 12 student and winning designer of the House Logo Design Competition

New House Logos Unveiled

At Dulwich Pudong, we have four Houses, each named after renowned individuals:

  • Wangari Maathai (Maathai House)
  • Marie Curie (Curie House)
  • Ernest Shackleton (Shackleton House)
  • Yong Wing (Wing House)

These outstanding individuals act as role models and inspire our students. From the first day of school, students are assigned to different Houses and House spirit is celebrated in large-scale events throughout the year. In these events, students across age groups come together as one to represent their House, strive to earn House points and bring glory to their House.

This year we felt the House logos needed refreshing. So in Term 1 we launched the House Logo Design competition across all three schools. We received many wonderful submissions. We then invited our community to vote on their favorite.

And finally we have a winner!

The Story Behind the Logos

The winning designs were created by Year 12 student Mila L.

3 New logo designer Mila L, Year 12

"All the best ideas come from the creative process; ideas come from the work itself." When taking on the design challenge during the early stages of the competition, Mila L recalled this statement which she had heard in her Art class.

She began by researching the four individuals, studying their life stories, and then considering the materials that could be used for the design. Mila incorporated elements which reflected the unique characteristics and history of each person into each design.

  • Maathai represents environmental protection
  • Curie represents scientific research and innovation
  • Wing represents the dissemination of knowledge
  • Shackleton represents the spirit of adventure

Incorporating these key elements into the House logos helps students gain a deeper understanding of their respective Houses and what they stand for.

The new logos all have in common the "shield" design. Our founding school, Dulwich College in London, has over 400 years of history; the shield symbolizes this rich heritage. In Mila L's eyes, this heritage encompasses moral qualities, cultural cultivation, self-discipline, and a sense of responsibility which very much aligns with our values of Value every voice, Make a difference and Do the right thing.

7 Our College values

Why do we have Houses?

The significance of the House system at Dulwich Pudong is multifaceted. First it encourages healthy competition and mutual support among peers. Through the House points system, students actively strive for achievement.

During events like Sports Day, students climb new heights and challenge themselves not only to achieve personal bests but also to strive to honour their Houses. Through participation and collaboration, students build closer connections, strengthen team spirit, and experience the joy of collective pride.

"The House system also creates a healthy competitive relationship because our competition is based on earning more House points. It's not about making others worse off but rather constantly improving ourselves. Through House, students like me can enhance our abilities and make progress academically and athletically," Mila shares.

House is also an important way we forster belonging and inclusivity, especially for new students. The House system helps them quickly find a sense of belonging, make new friends, and integrate into the larger Dulwich Pudong community.

By bringing students together from different year groups, Houses also help students break down age barriers to engage in communication and collaboration, and enhancing their teamwork skills. A great example of that is Dulwich Got Talent which is held every year in both the Junior School and Senior School School, encouraging students to showcase talents in front of their peers.

The House system also serves as an important platform for students to develop leadership skills. There are House Captains, House Ambassadors, and House Prefects in DUCKS, Junior School and Senior School. These positions offer opportunities to learn how to plan, develop teamwork skills, and cultivate a strong sense of responsibility.
