All the Chairs Agree: the Year 5 MUN Conference Was a Resounding Success

The 2024 Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong Year 5 MUN Conference was one of the best we’ve ever hosted. This year, Delegates debated the topic of ending world hunger and, for the first time since 2019, Dulwich College students from Beijing, Puxi, Seoul, Singapore and Suzhou were able to attend. During the 3-day conference, Delegates came up with some spectacular resolutions. Year 5 Delegates Ekansh (5M),Theo K (5M) and Valerie (5C) commented, “Personally, we really enjoyed this year’s MUN conference because we got the opportunity to practice our debating skills and collaborate with students from other schools. Finally using POI’s, Points of Order and Rights of Reply was really fun.” The excitement around MUN and the conference was felt by both the home college as well as the visiting Delegates. Alfred from Beijing stated, “Working together to include the thoughts of all Delegates in our team helped us create an effective clause for our class's Resolution. I'm very proud of our Resolution, the creativity and teamwork between me and my teammates is the key to making an effective yet creative Resolution.”

The Year 6 Chairs were very proud of all Delegates for their dedication and hard work during the conference. The Chairs could tell that all Delegates gained something at the conference including leadership skills, collaborating skills and confidence. As Alice C (5H) said: “When I started the conference, I was very scared because I had never done an MUN conference before. During the middle, I discovered that MUN was a thing I enjoy and it will help the world become peaceful.” Year 6 Lead Chair Serena Z echoed those comments when she said: “When I started MUN, I was really nervous thinking that I would mess things up, so I practised a lot. But when the conference started, the Delegates were well behaved, respectful and valued my voice, so the conference went really well.”

Tongtong summed up the conference and MUN by saying, “MUN will change your life, open your eyes, and amaze you”. This conference was outstanding, bringing together DCSPD students and peers globally. Beyond gaining invaluable experience, we've formed lasting friendships. Indeed, this year's Year 5 MUN Conference stood out for its excellence! Its success is a testament to the incredible talent, passion, and dedication of every Delegate and Chair involved. To all future Delegates, remember, a good Delegate keeps striving, keeps leading, and keeps making a difference.
