Background

Angel Vilchez is a teacher of Modern Foreign Languages where he teaches Spanish in Senior School as well as helps coaching the School’s swim team. He is also the Head of Year 7 this year.

Mr. Vilchez is originally from Granada in southern Spain. He graduated from the University of Granada with a Bachelor in Sports Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Languages instruction. After that he moved to the UK where he obtained his Qualified Teacher Status. After teaching for a few years, Mr. Vilchez then went back to university and obtained a Master’s in Business Administration from Durham University in England, writing his dissertation on Finance.

Since graduating in 2010 Mr. Vilchez has taught in Beijing, Dubai, Bermuda, the UK, Hong Kong and, of course Shanghai, where he spent three years as Head of the Foreign Languages department at another big international school. After completing his MBA, Mr. Vilchez spent two years working for the Financial Times in London and Madrid. This was a very enriching experience and gave him a wider vision of the world. After this hiatus, Mr. Vilchez went back to teaching in Bermuda and then decided to go back to Shanghai where he is joins us this academic year.

Mr. Vilchez is a passionate swimmer, having competed for a long time, and he remains very involved with the sport. Not only does he practice it during his free time, he also is involved with the DCSPD AquaPanthers. Besides swimming, Mr. Vilchez is an avid reader and a zealous traveler.
