Background

Jing Chen is Junior School and Senior School counselor at DCSPD. She is a Clinical Mental Health Counsellor who has been working in the education field for the last nine years. After graduating high school, she went to the United States for her Bachelor’s Degree, where she attended the University of Oregon and graduated from business school. Her secondary area of expertise is Non-profit Organization Management, with an emphasis on Education and Animal Protection. Right after, she earned a master's degree in clinical mental health counselling from Palo Alto University. She is now a Canadian Certified Counsellor.

She has held many positions within the education industry in the past. Volunteering as a teacher for two years, she taught elementary school students. She also served as the marketing manager and education consultant for a company that provides services to Chinese students studying abroad. In addition, as a clinical mental health counsellor, Jing has worked in clinical and school settings in Shanghai. Her working experiences in different international schools have enriched her exposure to different age groups, from 3 to 18 years old, and the dynamics of expatriate families, a well as equipping her with extensive knowledge of the international school systems in China. Jing considers herself a "third-culture adult," which affords her a profound understanding of individuals from many backgrounds.

In recent years, she spent lots of time working with students in different international schools. Jing has experience in Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, and utilizes an integrated approach in working with students. She believes all students have some special power that sometimes overwhelms them so she is here to support students to discover the power, learn it and utilize it.
