Rachael Thornton
Head of Psychology and IB Co-ordinator
Rachael Thornton is the Head of Psychology and Head of Year 13 , with this dual role being situated in the IBDP context. Ms. Thornton has oversight of the Psychology Department, a popular subject in the Senior School. Her commitment to the psychology curriculum is seen in her IB examiner experience for the Internal Assessment. Ms. Thornton's passion for cognitive psychology has influenced her creation of a Science of Learning programme, where students in year 11 are taught effective study habits in the holisitic development programme, based upon evidence in the field.
Additionally she holds the pastoral responsibility for Year 13 supporting their wellbeing through their IBDP studies, often drawing ispiration from positive education. She has strong understanding and experience of the IBDP context, having been both the Extended Essay Coordinator and a teacher of Theory of Knowledge at the school.
Ms. Thornton is origanlly from the UK, where following her gradutation, she worked in the area of student voice and engagement at both the Newcastle University and the University of Northampton. She taught for a number of years teaching A level Sociology in Leeds at a sixth form college, before her first international role in Mexico CIty.
At the Edron Academy she was Head of Psychology and Sociology, as well as being the Extended Essay Coordinator. A notable acheivement was the Year 10 Duke Of Edinburgh trip she co-led to Costa Rica, enriching the students in holisitc education.
