Amy Murphy

Head of Senior School

Amy Murphy has been teaching for over 20 years, in a range of leadership roles and contexts. After graduating from University, she taught in the UK for several years in both a fully comprehensive upper school in Leicestershire and a state boarding school in the Norfolk countryside. In 2007, she took up her first international role as Head of English in a British international school in the Middle East where she led a highly successful department for 5 years. Following a 3-year return to the UK to take up a senior leadership position in a flagship academy of a multi-academy trust, Amy moved to Thailand where she held the role of Assistant Head: Assessment. From here, she moved to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, taking the role of Deputy Head Teacher: Curriculum & Learning. During her 4.5 year tenure, she oversaw the senior school curriculum and academic middle leadership teams; her focus included developing the use of data to support students’ learning, improving the reporting processes to incorporate student voice, and contributing to the culture of professional learning in the school. Amy still continued to teach English to both middle and upper school students, passing on her passion for language and literature. A move to Hungary for her first headship in Budapest came at the end of 2021, where she led an outstanding senior school, before moving to Shanghai in July 2024 to join Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong as Head of Senior School. In every role, she has continued to develop invaluable and extensive knowledge and experience in teaching and learning, curriculum planning and pathways, effective assessment practices, professional learning, and leadership. Amy still loves to read in her spare time, along with running, cycling, cooking, and spending time with her family.
